Procedure

Benzyl 4-[(4-pyridinylamino)carbonyl]-1-piperidinecarboxylate (EXAMPLE 1, Step 1) (615 mg, 1.81 mmol) was dissolved in CH2Cl2 and treated with mCPBA (3.12 g, 18.10 mmol) and aged 18 h. The reaction was diluted with ethyl acetate and washed with sat. NaHCO3. The organics were separated, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The resulting oil was purified by silica gel chromatography to afford benzyl 4-{[(1-oxido-4-pyridinyl)amino]carbonyl}-1-piperidinecarboxylate as a clear oil.
