Procedure

85 mg 3-[2-(5-Chloro-pyridin-2-yl)-ethoxy]-4-methoxy-benzoic acid methyl ester was dissolved in 1.2 ml of MeOH:water/3:1. 30 mg of lithium hydroxide monohydrate were added to the added to the solution, and the reaction was stirred at RT for 16 h. The reaction mixture was acidified with half-concentrated hydrochloric acid. The suspension was concentrated under reduced pressure, coevaporated twice with toluene (2×10 ml) and then directly subjected to the subsequent amide coupling.
