Procedure

A solution of 3-chloropropyl 4-fluorophenyl sulfide (77.5 mg, 0.380 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (2.00 mL) was cooled to 0° C. To this solution m-CPBA (78.7 mg, 0.460 mmol) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 30 min, then at 23° C. for 4 h. The resulting crude mixture was diluted with 10% aqueous Na2SO3 (10 mL), the aqueous layer was extracted with CH2Cl2 (2×15 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine (10 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by preparative TLC using 2.5% of NH3 (2.0 M in methanol) in CH2Cl2 to give the desired product 3-chloropropyl 4-fluorophenyl sulfoxide (47.8 mg, 57.0%).
