Procedure

A solution of 54 parts of dimethyl methoxycarbonylphosphonate and 33 parts of 1,1,3-trimethylguanidine in 1000 parts of anhydrous tetrahydrofuran was refluxed for one hour. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to yield 71 parts of dimethyl 1-dimethylamino-1-methylaminomethyleneaminocarbonylphosphonate, nD25 = 1.4989.
