Procedure

To a mixture of 1-benzenesulfonyl-5-methylthio-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine obtained in Example 33 (2) (0.80 g) and tetrahydrofuran (30 ml), a lithium diisopropylamide (5.81 mmol) solution in tetrahydrofuran was added dropwise at −78° C. under nitrogen atmosphere, and the mixture was heated to −30° C. and stirred for 20 minutes, followed by dropwise addition of a mixture of dimethyl carbonate (0.91 g) and tetrahydrofuran (2 ml) at −78° C., and the mixture was stirred at −78° C. for 6 hours. To the reaction solution was added a saturated aqueous ammonium chloride solution, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The resulting residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography (hexane ethyl acetate=1:1) to obtain 0.54 g of the desired product.
