To a suspension of 0.29 g (7 mmol) of a dispersion of 60% NaH in 10 mL of anhydrous DMF under inert atmosphere, a solution of 1.5 g (4 mmol) of 2-{2-[4-(1H-indol-3-yl)-piperidin-1-yl]-ethoxy}-benzoic acid methyl ester, prepared in Example 1 (part D), in 5 mL of DMF was added. After 30 minutes at room temperature, a solution of 1.09 g (5.2 mmol) of 2-(2-bromoethoxy)tetrahydro-2H-piran in 2 mL of DMF was added. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 15 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the crude mixture was extracted between water and ethyl acetate. The organic phase was separated, dried and after filtering, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The crude mixture was purified by flash chromatography over silica affording 1.3 g (65% of yield) of the desired product.
