Procedure
The ethyl 5-(3-methylbenzo[b]thiophene-2-carbonyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydropyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrazine-2-carboxylate obtained in the previous step was dissolved in a mixture of tetrahydrofuran (1.8 mL) and methanol (0.3 mL). To the resulting solution was added 1M aqueous sodium hydroxide (0.4 mL, 0.4 mmol). The solution was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours whereupon the reaction was neutralized with the addition of 1M aqueous hydrochloric acid (0.4 mL). The solvents were evaporated under reduced pressure to afford crude Intermediate 24 as a white solid.
