To a stirred solution of 3-fluoro-4-(2-(methylsulfonyl)ethyl)aniline (200 mg, 0.92 mmol) in acetone/DMF (3 mL+1.27 mL), pyridine (0.222 mL, 2.76 mmol) was added dropwise phenyl chloroformate (0.152 mL, 1.197 mmol) at 0° C. and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. The acetone was evaporated and the residue was diluted with DCM (30 mL). The mixture was washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution (15 mL) and the organic layer extracted with DCM (2×20 mL). The combined organic layer was dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to give pure phenyl 3-fluoro-4-(2-(methylsulfonyl)ethyl)phenylcarbamate (260 mg, 84%).
