A mixture of methyl 4-(1-propyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)-2-thiophenecarboxylate (250 mg, 1.0 mmol) and NCS (200 mg, 1.5 mmol) in THF (5 mL) was heated to 70° C. in a sealed tube. After 2 h, the reaction mixture was concentrated and purified via column chromatography (silica, 10% EtOAc/Hexane) affording the title compound (199 mg, 70%) as a white solid: LC-MS (ES) m/z 285 (M+H)+.
