Procedure

To a stirred solution of 6-((5,6-dimethyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)methyl)-2-(methylthio)benzo[d]thiazole (450 mg, 1.32 mmol) from the previous step in DCM (20 mL) at 0° C. was added a solution of meta-chloroperbenzoic acid (270 mg, 1.32 mmol) in DCM (3 mL). After stirring for 2 h at 0° C., the reaction solution was diluted with EtOAc (100 mL) and washed sequentially with saturated aq Na2S2O3, saturated aq NaHCO3, and brine. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 6-((5,6-dimethyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)methyl)-2-(methylsulfinyl)benzo[d]thiazole (460 mg, 98%) as a colorless solid which was not purified further. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.01 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 1H), 7.90 (s, 1H), 7.72 (s, 1H), 7.60 (s, 1H), 7.37 (m, 1H), 7.02 (s, 1H), 5.48 (s, 2H), 3.06 (s, 3H), 2.37 (s, 3H), 2.32 (s, 3H); LCMS (ESI) m/z 356 (M+H)+.
