Procedure

To a stirred solution of 6-((5-methyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)methyl)-2-(methylthio)benzo[d]thiazole (0.61 g, 1.8 mmol) from the previous step in DCM (20 mL) at 0° C. was added a solution of meta-chloroperbenzoic acid (0.40 g, 1.57 mmol) in DCM (3 mL). After stirring for 2 h at 0° C., the solution was diluted with EtOAc (100 mL) and washed sequentially with saturated aq Na2S2O3, saturated aq NaHCO3, and brine. The organic layer was separated, dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 6-((5-methyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)methyl)-2-(methylsulfinyl)benzo[d]thiazole (0.57 g, 89%) as a yellow solid which was not purified further.
