Procedure

To a solution of 8-bromo-N-isopropyl-4,5-dihydro-6-oxa-3-thia-1-aza-benzo[e]azulene-2-carboxamidine (878 mg, 2.4 mmol) in THF (15 mL) was added chloroacetaldehyde solution (˜50 wt. % in H2O, 7.53 mL, 47.9 mmol) and aqueous saturated sodium bicarbonate solution (6 mL) at RT. The mixture was heated to 80° C. with rapid stirring. After heating for 20 hours the mixture was allowed to cool to RT and was extracted with DCM (150 mL). The organic layer was washed with water followed by brine, dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated in vacuo. The resultant residue was purified by flash chromatography (SiO2, gradient 0-100% EtOAc in cyclohexane) to afford the title compound (900 mg, 96%). LCMS RT=4.90 min, [M+H]+=390/392
