Procedure

To a microwave 5 mL vial was added 1-((cyclohexenylmethoxy)- methyl)-4-methoxybenzene (0.46 g, 2.00 mmol), trimethyl(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)silane (0.57 g, 4.00 mmol) and sodium iodide (0.66 g, 4.40 mmol) in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (1.0 mL). The vial was degassed with nitrogen and sealed. The reaction mixture was heated in the microwave reactor at 115° C. for 1 hour. The reaction vial was cooled and the TLC showed presence of starting material. To the reaction vial was added trimethyl(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)silane (0.5 mL) and continued heating in the microwave at the same temperature for another 1 hour. The reaction was filtered, washed with ethyl acetate (10 ml). The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to dryness. The residue was purified by column chromatography with ethyl acetate in hexanes (20%) to afford the title compound as colourless liquid (0.45 g, 80%).
