Procedure
To a mixture of triazolone 35 (248 mg, 0.5 mmol) and potassium carbonate (138 mg, 1 mmol) in DMF (6 ml), 1,2-epoxypropane (870 mg, 15 mmol) was added. The reaction mixture was heated at 60° C. for 18 h and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was treated with crushed ice, extracted with ethyl acetate (3×30 ml). The combined extract was washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4) and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The resulting crude product was purified on a column of silica gel (EtOAc/MeOH, 9:1) to give the hydoxypropyltriazolone 42 as a colorless solid (200 mg, 72%).
