Procedure

To a cooled (−78° C.) solution of 2,4-dichloro-6-methyl-5-nitropyrimidine (208 mg, 1.0 mmol, 1.0 eq. in 2 mL each of EtOH and THF) is added of pyrrolidine (78 mg, 1.1 eq) in 1.0 mL of EtOH. The resulting solution is stirred for 1 hour at −78° C., then for 2 hours at 0° C. N-methylaniline (0.432 mL, 4.0 eq.) is added dropwise and the reaction is stirred overnight. The resulting mixture is diluted with dichloromethane, washed with 0.1N HCl, saturated NaCl, dried (MgSO4), and filtered. Solvent is removed by evaporation and the residue is purified by chromatography to provide the target compound (r).
