Procedure
A mixture of the product of STEP 8 (150 mg, 0.33 mmol), iron powder (28 mg, 0.5 mmol), triphenylphosphine (87 mg, 0.33 mmol), and acetic acid (4.0 ml) was heated at reflux for 15 min. The cooled reaction was filtered through a short column of Celite®, and washed with ethyl acetate. The filtrate was concentrated. The residue was purified by chromatography (on silica gel, CH2Cl2/CH3OH/NH4OH-97.5/2/0.5) to afford a colorless oil in148 mg. The NMR spectra were consistent for the proposed structure.
