Procedure

HCl (g) was bubbled into a solution of 4-fluoro-DL-phenylglycine (810 mg, 4.79 mmol) in methanol (20 mL) for 5 min at 0° C. The reaction warmed to ambient temperature and stirred for 18 h. The mixture was concentrated to give the title compound (1 g). MS 183.9 (M+1)
