PROCEDURE

Dibenzylamine (1.95 mL, 10 mmol), triethylamine (1.37 mL, 10 mmol), 4-amino-6-chloro-5-nitro-pyridine-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (2.45 g, 10 mmol) and toluene (73 mL) were combined and heated at reflux over night. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and filtered through a short column of silica gel (eluting first with dichloromethane then ethyl acetate). The organics were concentrated to provide 10 as a yellow oil (4.2 g). 1H NMR (400 MHz, d6-DMSO) δ: 1.28 (t, J=7.1 Hz, 3H), 4.25 (q, J=7.1 Hz, 2H), 4.60 (s, 4H), 7.14-7.31 (m, 10H), 8.35 (s, br, 2H), 8.54 (s, 1H).
