A solution of trimethyl(3,3,3-triethoxyprop-1-ynyl)silane (25 g, 102 mmol) in MeOH (400 mL), was treated with K2CO3 (14 g, 102 mmol). The reaction was stirred at 23° C. After 15 hours, the reaction was diluted with pentane (500 mL). The pentane layer was separated, and the MeOH layer was extracted with pentane (2×250 mL). The combined pentane layers were washed with water (200 mL), dried over MgSO4, and concentrated (at 220 torr on rotary evaporator). The crude product was filtered through a silica gel plug using 10% diethyl ether/pentane as the eluant and concentrated (at 220 torr on rotary evaporator) affording 13.25 g of 3,3,3-triethoxyprop-1-yne.
