Lithium hydroxide (0.032 g, 1.344 mmol) was added to a solution of ethyl 3-chloro-5-({[(1,1-dimethylethyl)oxy]carbonyl}amino)-1H-indole-2-carboxylate (0.059, 0.17 mmol) in THF:methanol:water/3:1:1 (3 mL). The mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was dissolved in water, acidified with 1N aqueous HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated to give the title compound (0.054 g, ˜75% pure).
