Procedure

A mixture of 2-{1-[2-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-ethyl]-1H-pyrazol-3-yl}-4-methyl-thiazole-5-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (0.5 g, 1.39 mmol) and NaOH (0.22 g, 5.57 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (10 mL) and water (5 mL) was heated to reflux for 16 hr. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, and neutralized with 5% HCl to pH=6. The precipitate was filtered and dried to provide 2-{1-[2-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-ethyl]-1H-pyrazol-3-yl}-4-methyl-thiazole-5-carboxylic acid as a yellow solid (0.40 g, 87%) MS (M+H)+=332; Rt=1.04 min.
