Poly (methylphenylsilane)-supported copper (204 mg, 5 mmol) was added to an ethanol (2.0 ml) solution of p-nitrobenzaldehyde (0.4 mmol) and nitromethane (1.2 mmol), and was stirred at room temperature for 3 hr. The reaction mixture was filtrated, and the filtrate was concentrated, and analyzed by 1H-NMR. Resultantly, 2-nitro-1-(4-nitrophenyl)ethanol was produced at the conversion rate of 95%.
