Procedure
Into a four-necked flask were charged 14.9 parts of phenacyl bromide and 75 parts of acetone, and 6.6 parts of tetrahydrothiophene was added dropwise thereto. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. The obtained crystals were filtered, washed with 80 parts of a mixed solvent consisting of tert-butyl methyl ether and acetone in a ratio 1:1 (weight base), 50 parts of tert-butyl methyl ether and dried to give 16.9 parts of tetrahydro-1-(2-oxo-2-phenylethyl)thiophenium bromide.
