A mixture of 2-[5-(tert-butyldimethylsiloxymethyl)pyridin-2-yl]benzonitrile (4.9 g, 0.021 mol) and nBu4NF hydrate (8.1 g, 0.031 mol) in THF (60 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 18 h. The mixture was diluted with EtOAc, washed with water and brine, dried (MgSO4), and concentrated to give 3.5 g (80%) of product as a brown solid, mp 152°-153° C.
