To a solution of (5-trimethylsilanylethynyl-thiazol-2-yl)-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (1.67 g, 5.633 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (20 ml) was added K2CO3 (0.389 g, 2.816 mmol) and stirred at room temperature overnight. Then the reaction was heated at 50° C. for 2 hrs. Methanol was removed under reduced pressure. The residue obtained was partioned between water (50 ml) and ethyl acetate (50 ml). The layers were separated. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to provide (5-ethynyl-thiazol-2-yl)-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (1.2 g).
