Procedure

N-(5-chloro-2-methylbenzyl)-3-[(trifluoroacetyl)amino]isoxazole-5-carboxamide (550 mg, 1.5 mmol) and phosphorus pentachloride (620 mg, 3.0 mmol) were weighed into a vial. Toluene (18 mL) was added and the vial was heated at 90° C. for 1.5 h. The solution was stripped to dryness and residue was dissolved in ethanol (14 mL) and 50% hydroxylamine in water (3.1 mL) was added. After stirring for 0.5 h, reaction was diluted with ethyl acetate and water. Aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate once. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated to give the desired product (570 mg, 100%). LCMS calculated for C14H13ClF3N4O3(M+H)+: m/z=377.1.
