To a solution of (3aSR,6aRS)-2-oxo-hexahydro-cyclopentaimidazole-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (Example 106, step 1) (1.82 g, 8.04 mmol) in 30 ml of DMF was added a 60% suspension of sodium hydride in mineral oil (386 mg, 9.65 mmol, 1.2 equiv.). The suspension was stirred for 45 minutes at room temperature (gas evolution), then iodomethane (0.604 ml, 9.65 mmol, 1.2 equiv.) was added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. After concentration in vacuo and workup with ethyl acetate/water, 2.05 g of a yellow oil were obtained containing mineral-oil drops which was directly used in the next step without further characterisation.
