Procedure
200 mg (5 mmol) of sodium hydroxide are added to a solution of 510 mg (1.68 mmol) of ethyl (1-phenyl-1,3-diazaspiro[4.5]decyl)acetate in 10 ml of tetrahydrofuran. The solution is stirred for 4 h at room temperature. The medium is then poured into water, acidified to pH 1 with concentrated hydrochloric acid and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phases are collected and washed with water. They are dried over sodium sulfate. The solvents are evaporated. The product is triturated in heptane. 190 mg of (1-phenyl-1,3-diazaspiro[4.5]dec-3-yl)acetic acid are obtained in the form of a yellowish solid. M.p. 162-4° C., yield=41%.
