Procedure
Aqueous HCl solution is added to a solution of (S)-5-((1-iodocyclopropyl)methyl)-2,2,3,3,8,8,9,9-octamethyl-4,7-dioxa-3,8-disiladecane in THF at 0° C. The mixture is slowly warmed to room temperature and stirred for 24 hours. The reaction is quenched by addition of aqueous NaHCO3 solution, extracted with ethyl acetate, and the combined organic layers washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated under reduced pressure to provide (S)-3-(1-iodocyclopropyl)propane-1,2-diol (0.598 mmol).
