Procedure
A solution of 2M lithium hydroxide in water (5 ml) was added to a stirred solution of 10c (223 mg, 0.60 mmol.) in tetrahydrofuran (15 ml). The stirred mixture was heated to 60° C. for 15 hours. The reaction mixture was partially evaporated before adding 2M hydrochloric acid (20 ml). The solution was extracted with ethyl acetate (3×15 ml). The extract was dried over sodium sulfate filtered and evaporated to give a yellow gum (209 mg). The gum was purified on a silica column eluting with 25% ethyl acetate, 75% hexane to yield 10d as a yellow gum (68 mg, 66%). 1H NMR δ (300 MHz NMR, CDCl3) 1.15-1.19 (d, 3H), 1.57-1.67 (m, 2H), 2.11-2.23 (m, 2H), 2.74-2.85 (m, 1H), 3.39-3.42 (s, 3H), 3.45-3.53 (m, 1H), 4.97-5.10 (m, 2H), 5.76-5.91 (m, 1H).
