Procedure
To a solution of 2,4-hexadiyn-1,6-diol (1.1 g) in acetone (15 ml), K2CO3 (0.5 g) was added. To the stirred solution at room temperature, 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (3.8 g) was added gradually and the dark red solution stirred overnight at room temperature. It was poured into excess water, the pale yellow solid filtered off, washed with water and dried. Recrystallization from dioxane ethanol gave short, light pink needles, m.p. 210° C. (4.2 g, 95%). I.R. (KBr): 1592, 1333, 834 (Ar-NO2)cm-1.
