Procedure
Hydrochloric acid 37% in H2O (0.14 mL) was added to a solution of rac-4-[3-(benzhydrylidene-amino)-phenyl]-4-methyl-4,7-dihydro-pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrazin-6-ylamine (0.37 g, 0.9 mmol) in isopropanol (10 mL). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. Et2O was added and the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes. The solid precipitated was filtered, washed with Et2O and dried in vacuo. The residue was suspended in DCM and washed with NaHCO3 (aq. sat. solution). The organic layer was separated, dried (MgSO4), filtered and the solvents evaporated in vacuo to yield (0.21 g, 97% yield) as a white solid which was used in the next step without further purification.
