Procedure
A mixture of 8.8 g (41.8 mmol) (E)-methyl 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-methylacrylate (freshly distilled) 0.476 g (4.18 mmol) TFA, and 12.4 g (52 2 mmol) N-(methoxymethyl)-N-(trimethylsilylmethyl)benzylamine in 100 mL DCM was stirred at 0-5° C. for 1 h and at room temperature. NEt3 was added and the mixture was concentrated. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica eluting with a gradient formed from ethyl acetate and heptane to yield after evaporation of the product containing fractions 7.55 g (53%) of the title compound as colorless oil. MS m/e: 344.1 [M+H]+.
