The compound of step 1 (10.6 g, 29.4 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (100 ml), potassium carbonate (812 mg, 5.88 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. An excess of 2 N hydrochloric acid was added, the methanol was evaporated in vacuo and the residue partitioned between EA and water. The aqueous phase was extracted with EA, the combined organic phases were dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated to dryness to give the title compound (6.81 g).
