To a solution of (5-methyl-3-phenyl-isoxazol-4-yl)-methanol (350 mg, 2.2 mmol) in THF (30 mL) was added 3-hydroxy-isothiazole-5-carboxylic acid methyl ester (416 mg, 2.2 mmol) and triphenylphosphine (692 mg, 2.4 mmol) at 0° C. under an argon atmosphere. Then diethyl azodicarboxylate (˜40% in toluene, 1.05 mL, 2.4 mmol) was added and the reaction mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. Concentration and purification by chromatography (silica, heptane:ethyl acetate=9:1 to 0:1) afforded the title compound (567 mg, 78%) as a colourless oil. MS: m/e=331.1 [M+H]+.
