Procedure

Sodium hydride (8.00 mg of a 60% dispersion in mineral oil, 0.207 mmol) was added to a solution of 2′,3′,5′,6′-tetrahydrospiro[indole-3,4′-pyran]-2(1H)-one from Step A (35.0 mg, 0.172 mmol) in DMF (1 mL) at 0° C. After 1 hr, tert-butyl bromoacetate (0.280 mL, 0.189 mmol) was added and the reaction warmed to ambient temperature. After 18 h, the reaction was partitioned between CH2Cl2 (10 mL) and saturated NH4Cl (10 mL). The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound. MS: m/z=318 (M+1).
