Procedure

A solution of ethyl isocyanatoformate (500 mg, 4.2 mmol) in absolute diethyl ether (15 mL) was added dropwise to a solution of N1.N1-dimethylethane-1,2-diamine (440 mg, 550 μL, 5 mmol) in diethyl ether (25 mL) and stirred for 2 h at room temperature. The precipitate was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated under vacuum.
