A mixture of [3-(4-bromobenzyl)-4-difluoromethoxy-2-ethyl-8-fluoroquinolin-5-yloxy]acetic acid methyl ester (0.05 g), 1-isopropyl-3-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl[1,3,2]dioxaborolan-2-yl)-1H-pyrazole (0.047 g), tetrakis(triphenylphospine)palladium (0) (0.012 g), N,N-dimethylformamide (0.3 mL) and 2.0 M aqueous cesium carbonate solution (0.2 mL) was heated by microwave irradiation at 140° C. for 6 minutes. The mixture was cooled to room temperature, acidified by the addition of 1.0 M aqueous hydrochloric acid solution and then extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined extracts were washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried over magnesium sulfate and then concentrated under reduced pressure. Purification of the residue by preparative reverse-phase HPLC gave title compound (0.014 g).
