Procedure
Through a solution of 6-hydroxynaphthalene-2-carboxylic acid (4.87 g, 26 mmol, Aldrich) in MeOH (100 mL, Aldrich) was bubbled HCl gas for 1 h. The resulting mixture was stirred for 10 h at RT. The solution was concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as a pink powder. MS (ESI, pos. ion) m/z: 203 (M+1). Mass Calc'd for C12H10O3: 202.06.
