Procedure

To a solution of 1-benzyloxycarbonyl-3-pyrroline (5.0 g) in methylene chloride (125 mL) was added m-chloroperbezoic acid (12.17 g) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 days. To the reaction mixture was added an aqueous saturated sodium thiosulfate solution (100 mL) and the mixture was stirred for 30 minutes. The reaction mixture was extracted with chloroform (×2) and the organic layer was washed successively with an aqueous 2N sodium hydroxide solution (1100 mL×2) and a saturated brine, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to give benzyl 6-oxa-3-azabicyclo[3,1,0]hexan-3-carboxylate (5.58 g, yield: 100%) as an oil.
