Using a procedure analogous to Example B39, ethyl 2-tert-butyl-4-(pyridin-3-yl)pyrimidine-5-carboxylate (0.17 g, 0.60 mmol) was treated with LiOH.H2O (57 mg, 2.38 mmol) to afford 2-tert-butyl-4-(pyridin-3-yl)pyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid (0.11 g, 72% yield). MS (ESI) m/z: 258.0 (M+H+).
