A 5 mL conical reaction vial was charged with tert-butyl 4-(2-cyanoacetyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (348 mg, 1.379 mmol), hydrazine monohydrate (329.4 μL, 6.896 mmol) and EtOH (4 mL). The reaction vessel was sealed and heated to 80° C. for 20 hours. The volatiles were removed to afford tert-butyl 4-(5-amino-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)piperidine-1-carboxylate as a foam (367 mg. 99%).
