Procedure
A mixture of {5-fluoro-3-[3-fluoro-4-(4-fluorobenzenesulfonyl)benzyl]-2-methylindol-1-yl}acetic acid methyl ester (0.14 g) and tetrahydrofuran (1.0 mL) was treated with 5.0 M aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (2.0 mL), and the resulting mixture was stirred at 40° C. for 1 hour. The mixture was acidified by the addition of 5.0 M aqueous hydrochloric acid solution and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by preparative reverse-phase HPLC, eluting with a mixture of acetonitrile and water (3.5:6.5 to 9:1, by volume) to afford the title compound as a white solid (0.046 g).
