A mixture of [5-fluoro-3-(4-phenylsulfonylpyridin-3-ylmethyl)-2-methylindol-1-yl]acetic acid methyl ester (0.19 g) and tetrahydrofuran (1.0 mL) was treated with 2.0 M aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (3.0 mL), and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The mixture was acidified by the addition of 1.0 M aqueous hydrochloric acid solution, and the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration to afford the title compound as a pale yellow powder (0.15 g).
