A mixture of {5-fluoro-3-[3-(pyridine-3-sulfonyl)thiophen-2-ylmethyl]-2-methylindol-1-yl}acetic acid methyl ester (0.025 g) and tetrahydrofuran (0.8 mL) was treated with 2.0 M aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (0.5 mL), and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The mixture was acidified by the addition of 1.0 M aqueous hydrochloric acid solution, extracted with ethyl acetate and the combined organic extract was dried over magnesium sulfate. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue triturated with diethyl ether to afford the title compound as a white solid (0.020 g).
