Procedure
The solution of methyl 2-(4-((5-(2-chlorophenyl)thiazol-2-yl)methoxy)-2-methylphenoxy)acetate from Step A is treated with a solution of 1 M LiOH in H2O (1 mL), and the mixture is stirred for 12 h at rt. The mixture is acidified with 1 M HCl (10 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (20 mL). The organic layer is dried (MgSO4), filtered, concentrated and purified on reverse phase HPLC(H2O/MeCN gradient) to afford the title compound E1 as a white solid: 1H-NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ=7.96 (s, 1H), 7.50 (m, 2H), 7.30 (m, 2H), 6.89 (d, J=2.4 Hz, 1H), 6.77 (dd, J=2.4, 8.8 Hz, 1H), 6.71 (d, J=8.8 Hz, 1H), 5.33 (s, 2H), 4.64 (s, 2H), 2.29 (s, 3H). MS calcd. for C19H17ClNO4S (M+H+) 390.0. found 390.0.
