Procedure
5-(4-Methoxyphenyl)pyridine-2(1H)-one (4.20 mmol, 0.85 g), 2-chloro-5-(chloromethyl)pyridine (1.5 eq, 6.30 mmol, 1.02 g), K2CO3 (2 eq, 8.40 mmol, 1.17 g) in THF (10 mL) were heated at 70° C. for 2 hours. Then, the reaction was cooled to room temperature. The suspension was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was puridied by short open column chromatography CH2Cl2/MeOH(NH3)sat. 1% yielding 1-((6-chloropyridin-3-yl)methyl)-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)pyridin-2(1H)-one as white solid (1.04 g, 75%)
