A solution of 1-2 (100 mg, 0.210 mmol, 1.0 equiv) in THF (2 ml) in a microwave vial was treated with pyridine-3-boronic acid pinacol ester (47.4 mg, 0.231 mmol, 1.1 equiv), cesium carbonate (163 mg, 0.500 mmol, 2.4 equiv), PdCl2(dppf)-CH2Cl2 adduct (17.15 mg, 0.021 mmol, 0.1 equiv), and 0.5 mL water. The mixture was heated to 120° C. in a microwave reactor for 10 min. The mixture was cooled to RT and diluted with EtOAc. The mixture was washed with sat. aq. NH4Cl, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated. The crude material (1-3) was used as is in the next step. ESI+ MS [M+H]+ C21H19BrN2O3: 428.0 found, 427.3 required.
