Procedure
Benzoyl chloride (126.9 g, 0.900 mol) was added slowly to a stirred mixture of the product of Step A (121 g, 0.818 mol), triethylamine (99.1 g, 0.982 mol) and catalytic amount of DMAP (1 g, 8.18 mmol) in dichloromethane (1 L) at rt under nitrogen. The mixture was stirred overnight and diluted with dichloromethane (1 L). Then the solution was washed with water, hydrochloric acid (0.5 M, 2×1 L), and brine. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4, filtered and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was dried in vacuo to give the compound. 1H-NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 8.19-8.22 (m, 2H), 7.83 (d, J=8.1 Hz, 1H), 7.65-7.69 (m, 1H), 7.52-7.55 (m, 2H), 7.37 (s, 1H), 7.22 (dd, J=8.1 Hz, J=2.0 Hz, 1H), 3.17-3.20 (m, 2H), 2.73-2.76 (m, 2H) ppm.
