A suspension of 5-bromo-3-[5-[4-(bromomethyl)phenyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]pyrazin-2-amine (2 g, 4.9 mmol) and Na2CO3 (1.55 g, 14.60 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (30 mL) was treated with methanamine (3.6 mL of 2 M, 7.3 mmol) in THF. The reaction mixture was heated at 60° C. for 1 h. The reaction was cooled, diluted with water and the organic layer was extracted with dichloromethane. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to yield 5-bromo-3-(5-(4-((methylamino)methyl)phenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)pyrazin-2-amine (1.7 g, 97%) as a yellow solid, which was used without purification in the next step. LC/MS m/z 363.5 [M+H]+.
